Description
Finally! I found the time to finish the third illustration for my childrens book project 'Hey Day'.Some of you might have seen the sketch for this. I included it with the second illustration (see gallery).
Arenhaus gave me some constructive advice which I followed, so thanks for that man.
Acrylics and colored pencils, took me about two working weeks all together. I only used references for the colors and feathers of the jay-bird.
Enjoy!
PS!!! Please check the added 'next sketch'. I'd like some comments before I start painting it. Pretty please?
Play the Eurasien jay sound in the background to make it come alive!

but a pink one is ok too
04/26/05 @703
quite funny idea
little crit: the bird could need some more contrast/shadows/lighting compared with all the other objects
04/26/05 @703
Really like the vivid colours in this one! Certainly fits for the childrens book. Well done. My only gripe is probably the pink feathers on the bird, not sure if they fit in well with the rest of the picture. Allthough thats probably just down to taste...i hate pink!

And for the people who give crits on the color: This is a Eurasian Jaybird (latin name: garrulus glandarius). And they are in fact pink.

The new sketch is cool, cute duck, nice perspective, I like the fish in the middle - good.
EDIT: maybe you could make the fish in different sizes to add a little bit more depth for the underwater world, sort of that they re not swimming in a a line, but rather one after another, one closer ot the viewer, the other a bit further.. but dont mess up the composition

you are nothing like God. He is not handy with the Ladies, and doesn't improve on things AFTER they've been created.
I'm going to Hell for that comment, for sure. Ah, crap. It was worth it

anyhoo, nice composition, great colours and easily the best rendering of an angry squirrel i've seen today. nothing else comes even close.
if i did have a criticism, it would be that the bird is a little flat: there's no shading round the edges as there is on the sqirrels and tree trunk...plus the tail is getting a little lost in amongst the leaves at the top. but i'm just being picky...
