Description
I promised to post the second illustration of 'Hey day!' as soon as it was finished, and so I did. There's danger in this one! The pheasant is so busy calling that he doesn't see the weasel approaching......
Acrylics and coloured pencils on carton, 100% handmade, just one reference from a book, for the pheasant.
Check out the added link below. It's the sketch for the 3d illustration. Enjoy!
And play the pheasant sound in the background to make it come alive!

As you know Arne, I love animals. I have yet to get a photo of either a weasel or a pheasant.
I have a photo of mushrooms very similar to the ones in your drawing. I'll be posting it soon.
A 10/10 for you my friend!

Actually, I like many aspects of this, especially the stuff jutting out of the rectangle, and this would be "full marks" if not for three things. One, I would raise the background rectangle's top higher, so it does not coincide with the ring on the pheasant's throat and the protrusion that the pheasant forms is not so large. That's a minor thing. Two, I would move the weasel to the left, so that the space to the left of it is smaller and so that its line of sight aims at the pheasant better.
If I understood you right that this picture is in preparation to a bigger one, I would correct these three in the big piece.

Arenhaus ~
You are (damned!) right about the pheasant's throat, I see that now....
And about the weasel. It would, next to your comment, create more tention in the image. (AAAARRRGH!)
About the flatness: That's meant as it is. (phew...) My goal is to create plasticity in stage decorations, several flat pieces that overlap. That was the trick behind the style.
I'm not doing this again, it's the result. I added a link to what is going to be the next one, so if you'd want to comment that?

The smile on the weasel face is very funny. Love it!

As for the other sketch - I'd try to emphasize the perspective on the wand the bird is perched upon, and also show more of the squirrel tossing an acorn - move it upper and make it violate the frame more. Otherwise, no glaring flaws detected.

Nothing a non-drawer like me could crit

All in all, I think it was done very well. +8

I agree with Arenhaus about moving the weasel more to the left, this would help the composition.
Also, the top edge could be moved a bit up or down, since right now, it looks like it's chopping the bird's head right off.
One other thing, the yellow/gold background could be broken up a bit, since it's kinda distracting as is, it looks like a flat wall cutout.
Maybe putting in more color variation, or blurring it more as a whole, so it doesn't take away from the focal point of the image.
+5/7

I like this piece Arne. But if i may say so,there is two things that bother me.1st
the legs of the pheasant. Are they suppose to be dug in the dirt or is this your depiction? They look like they are a part of the soil itself. 2nd the weasels arms .
pheasant is very realistic the colors the posture everthings ok.But the weasel seems a little cartoonish(maybe it was your aim,i dont know). Do you know the painting by Leonardo Da Vinci "Lady with an Ermine" It's one of my favorite artwork of all time.In that painting i can see and guess what an ermine is.I would love to see that in this piece...To see and feel what a weasel is.You know what i mean..Anyway...overall it s a fine work and would love to see more "Hey day"
for those who like to see "Lady with an Ermine" goto---> http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/vinci/ermine.jpg
And all the people who are out there vote for traditional art,Vote for Artoonator...
Respect the life,
Respect the pencil fighting and endless war with the color white,
Respect the paint which stole the colors of nature and gave it to us.
Respect the canvas which stood brave and still against the torments of the artist...
Respect the artist which gave its life to depict its existence.....

So if, during the process, I 'see' the legs of the pheasant sink in the ground, or behind it, or whatever, and I find something interesting in that, I might decide to give it a weird swing.
I never do that with strict assignments because the risk is too high. But in this case...hmmm... I'll just try and see what happens.
BTW: Here's a link to a weasel-picture. http://www.rockleigh.org/Recreation/Images/Mammal/weasel.gif
I didn't use a reference for it, but maybe I should have. The creature on the painting you linked is more like what we now know as a ferret. A weasels size is only 1/3 of a rabbit.(!!!) I drawed it in an extreme perspective, but now I see that in that case the logs should have been bigger.
I agree with your view on the weasel. It came out a bit to cartoonie. Maybe I'll give it some more detail in the furr, using a reference.
Thanks for the comments people, they help me be more objective.

I think your idea about putting more fur on the weasel is good. Since we can't see his face, a bit more detail in the rest of him might make him work better in the scene.
All in all, this is wonderful work, and I am looking forward to seeing more.

And so many details! All I can say is: my gosh! Heheheh
the next sketch seems a bit drastic though! Still, from the tehcnical point of view, amzingly awesome!!
+10 definitely, for the concept, colors, style, technical side and well... everything
