You're style is cool, I like the bright colors you use. Interesting perspective as well.

It looks alot different without the colored pencil, I'm not sure which I like better. Their good in different ways I guess.

edit: four posts at once O_O

Avatar Wysiwyg

 10/04/05 @975

lol that's awesome Arne...

Two things I like the most...your decision to outline elements as they did kinda run together in the 'just paint' version, and the breaking of the border...

I do find it odd where the water is kinda lighter in the center (around the duck's feet) whereas I would think since it's murky old pond water..it would appear darker in the distance...

You definately have a great style!!
Love the colours, especially like how uv added the red key line around most objects in the pick (thumbup)!!
Excellent work, u get my max +9

This is SO cool! I like the different greens you've used, and the red outlines, which makes a nice contrast! The framing is awesome too!:)

Avatar Andy--Jones

 10/04/05 @994

This is great Arne.I love the perspective in this, it really works. Those fish are great and the framing is a nice touch, especially where it sort of veers outwards at the top. Great illustration.

Nice one poo face, the colours are spot on the drawing is excellent and the viewpoint is great. One tiny crit, the duck kinda looks too high in the water, I think it may look better if his body was a bit more submerged. Great work.

Avatar ThruMyEyez

 10/04/05 @001

Good work Arne. I like the elements of the work breaking the borders. I agree with Glenn that the duck should be lower in the water.

Avatar Alterpha

 10/04/05 @002

Pretty cool perspective, I love the fish in the middles expression. The whole drawing looks like it's spilling off of the paper. Was that intentional or a happy accident?

Socar-Myles

 10/04/05 @007

Hey, great job! Very exuberant. I love the palette you picked, as well. Perhaps the middle fish could "pop" just a bit more, to give even more of a sense of forward movement, but that's just nitpicking. Overall, I'm diggin' the hell out of this.

There are so many cool things from this work, what I like the most is the perspective you have chosen. You are such a pro.

 10/04/05 @276

This is awesome work! Spectacular colours, really, and you got the expressions very well made! You also got the waterlook right. The sky seems a tiny bit too simple to me, though I can see you wanted it to be, other than that there is nothing more to critique.

Thanks people, glad you like it.
GFXartist sponsor Alterpha; Everything about it is intentional. I'm starting to be a control-freak :)
GFXartist sponsor Wysiwyg; The water in the distance is ment to be bright because it's closer to the horizon, where the sun is....maybe I'm wrong, it was a guess, but I thought it would look good on the orange paws.

Avatar Rafsan

 10/07/05 @352

I personally wouldn't use the red outlining everywhere, to me it doesn't work well with green...
I think nature children books is your thing. I'm glad to see traditional painting and illustration at gfx, because that's the style I like most:)
p.s. I haven't been much around at gfx lately, two young children and shift work doesn't give much time to do something else, I've missed so many great works...

Avatar eremita

 10/07/05 @469

Man! What a huge amount of work! I like how all is deligned by a thin red line, very neo-impresionist.......... GREAT WORK MAN! +10/10

Avatar Crow

 10/08/05 @887

Cool. Very nice perspective, usually pics showing also underwater are not good, because perspective and colors are a miss. Here it looks like you painted it half underwater and that middle fish popped through your canvas, and that you captured everything dead on.

One of the best I've seen lately, not too much to crit. Middle fish could need some heavier line weight to pop it out even more. I could start counting the water distortion on the duck's left bottom part - might be too much a miss but not sure.. at least it adds nice kick to this one.

Why don't they have these kind of illustrations in books I see?

Thanks for the comment. And so positive!
The reason you don't see it like this is because the editors world is very carefull. Cowardly allmost, and with reason; Taking risks could cost money. Who says moms would like this, and buy it? I think taking risks could give the editors some of their old status back, but hey, who am I....:|
At the same time I think; Maybe I'm wrong, maybe this isn't what children would want to see, but just a playground for my own little person.

"just a playground for my own little person"
Is there something you want to annouce to everyone? Is there a little Arne on the way?
Don't you get tired of being so consistantly professional and innovative simultaneously in every single painting you make?
*yearns for the days of the famous Artoonator paint-over*
You're an impossible act to follow, artistically speaking, I can't decide if that ruins things for the rest of us or "raises the bar".
Great stuff, illustrator man, how about cranking out a crappy experimental piece next to take the pressure off us, huh? ;)

whether you trust, I have seen the precisely similiar dream. i was a fish, may be, watching up to the duck's paws from a bottom of pond. the same view, guy, have you seen my dream too? =)))

Hehe, I like the expressions on the fish (if fish faces can have expressions) fleeeeeeeeeeeee the duck! Anyway, intersting perspective, and I like the red outline you used in places, really gives a kind of vibrance to the complimentary greens.

Wonderful one. I love how all these animals pop out of the frame, this really had depth. And you even thought of the difference of diffraction in water, making the duck seeming bigger under water. "C'est du grand art" ('it is great art'). (But is it worth to do it if it's intended for children who won't probably notice it?) The best from you I've seen for the time being. top marks! (+9/9)
